Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Welcome to the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

This Department covers the broad remit of plastic and reconstructive procedures and includes inpatient, daycare and outpatient services. Many of the patients are seen in a multi-disciplinary setting, reflecting the need for reconstructive surgery across a wide number of disciplines. This inter-disciplinary care includes breast reconstruction in patients who have had a mastectomy, undertakes head and neck reconstruction in patients who have had oral or ear, nose and throat tumours and undertakes skin and muscle reconstruction in patients who have compound fractures of their limbs. In addition, there is a large workload treating skin cancers, both melanoma and non-melanoma. There is a dedicated Hand Surgery Unit with a weekly Hand Surgery Outpatients Clinic attended by surgeons, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. A new Clinic has been set up specialising in Breast Reconstruction. A service is also provided to the National Rehabilitation Hospital In Dun Laoghaire, in relation to the management of Pressure Ulcers.
