Introduction
This Department endeavours to deliver a quality service, promoting and improving Mental Health and Psychological Well-being.
The service comprises of a community-based service for the local catchment area, a Liaison Service and the Sub-Specialty services of Old Age, Eating Disorder and Perinatal Psychiatry. It works in close liaison with the local Psychological services and has access to the School of Psychotherapy based in SVUH. Research and Education are an integral part of the service and is actively promoted.

In 2005 Elm Mount Unit was opened within SVUH. This Unit is designed to provide a high-quality environment for in-patient care.
Staff
The Clinical Director leads a team of Consultants who deliver their services within multidisciplinary teams, which consist of Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Psychologists. The teams also have access to the Alcohol Treatment Unit in Bagott Street Hospital.
The Professor of Psychiatry (UCD School of Medicine and Medical Science) is dedicated to continually improve on Teaching and Learning and actively promotes Research.
