Half-Way House
Aim
The aim of the Half-Way House is to provide a residential service to those patients and families of the Liver Transplant Service. It will provide accommodation, primarily for the relatives/support persons of those undergoing liver transplantation and also for potential/transplant recipients themselves requiring accommodation who do not require medical or nursing supervision/intervention.
One room will be provided per recipient and will be limited to a maximum of one weeks stay for the critical period of a recipients care. As the accommodation is limited families may be asked to leave prior to this time to facilitate relatives in greater need.
An agreement form will need to be signed prior to any patient/family of the service taking up use of the accommodation. Accommodation will not be provided for children under 12 years of age.
There is a strict no smoking policy and each room within the service is fitted with a smoke detector connected to a central fire alarm panel. Alcohol is not permitted in the Half-Way House.
A kitchen area has been provided on the ground floor, which is shared with the Cancer Support Centre. This facility is for the making of tea/coffee and light snacks only. The restaurants and coffee shops of both St. Vincent's University Hospital and Private Hospital are available to those using the Half-Way House. Please leave the kitchen tidy after use.
Cost
A returnable deposit of € 20.00 will be required for the key(s) to the front door and the individual bedrooms, which will be returned on return of the key(s). Keys are to be returned to a designated member of staff, housekeeping or the transplant co-ordinators, and rooms should be vacated by 11.00am on the day of departure.
A donation of € 10.00 per night/per room will contribute to maintaining and upgrading the property as well as contributing to the running costs of the facility.
Personal Property
The Directors of the Half-Way House and St. Vincent's Healthcare Group take no responsibility for the loss or theft of belongings of any users of the service. No items of value should be left in the Half-Way House by residents.
If you have any further enquiries please contact the transplant co-ordinators - 01-2094707/4131.
January 2008
This facility has had to be closed and demolished to facilitate the building of the new hospital on the St. Anthony's site.
While a suitable alternative is being sought all recipients and patients who would previously have accommodated in the Half-Way House are being placed in hotel accommodation within easy access of the hospital.
