Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department

The department consists of two sections : Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering.

Medical Physics:

This section provides medical physics services to the hospital and to the other constituent institutions of the Healthcare Group.

These services include:

  • Radiation protection involving ionising radiation.
  • Image analysis.
  • Therapy procedures.
  • Quality control.
  • Measurement and data reduction.
  • In-vivo and in-vitro tests.
  • Non-ionising radiation protection involving lasers and ultraviolet sources.
  • Commissioning work.
  • Teaching and research.

There are four staff members in Medical Physics:

Clinical Engineering:

This section is involved in the following activities:

  • Actively participating in all aspects of, electro medical equipment management, equipment maintenance, project development, equipping.
  • Compiling comprehensive equipment technical specifications.
  • Advising on and evaluating new equipment purchases
  • Continuously updating information on EEC Directives
  • Continuous liaison with health and safety including IMB alerts
  • Quality control and compliance with international standards.
  • Project decommissioning programme
  • Comprehensive database on all aspects of electro medical equipment
