Occupational Health
Welcome to the Occupational Health Department
The OHD was established in 1997 to provide occupational health and safety advice and services to employees of St. Vincent’s Healthcare Group. The emphasis is on the protection of employees from possible adverse effects of the work in which they are engaged.
Occupational health is concerned with the two-way relationship of work and health. It is as much related to the effects of the working environment on the health of the worker, as it is to the influence of the workers state of health on his/her ability to perform the tasks for which he/she was employed. The main aim of occupational health is to prevent ill health rather than cure it.
Mission Statement
The aim of the occupational therapy department is to provide a high quality, equitable and holistic service, which recognises the value of every client. We achieve this by:
• Providing interventions that empower our clients to maximise independence and restore balance to their activities, thus improving the person’s quality of life.
• Fostering strong working relationships with our multidisciplinary and community colleagues.
• Promoting a learning environment for staff and students through comprehensive academic and educational opportunities.
• Ensuring ongoing improvement through a commitment to continuing professional development, audit processes and key performance indicators.
• Exhibiting responsibility and creativity in the management of all available resources.
• Maintaining an awareness of the wider context within which we work and to ensure our department is aligned to the overall mission of St. Vincent’s University Hospital and St. Vincent’s Healthcare Group.
The OHD Team use a multi-disciplinary approach to:
- Identify and evaluate workplace hazards;
- Track patterns of work-related injury and illness;
- Develop training and educational materials and programmes;
- Provide technical assistance to others to prevent work-related injury and illness;
