Catering

The Catering Department is responsible for providing all food services to patients, staff and visitors in St. Vincent’s University Hospital. Our aim is to ensure we deliver on all of their dietary needs which includes tailoring menus to meet certain therapeutic, ethnic or special dietary requirements.

Patient food services

A carefully planned HACCP* programme ensures that we prioritise food safety, quality and overall nutritional value. All patients are encouraged to only consume food provided by the Catering Department throughout their hospital stay as food which is not subject to strict monitoring and safety guidelines can pose a risk to their own health and to the health of other patients.
*Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points

Patient ward meal times

Patient meals are served on the wards between 07:30 and 21:00, Monday to Sunday.

Meal Time
Breakfast 08:00
Morning break 10:00
Lunch 12:10
Evening meal 16:45
Late evening beverage 19:30-20:30

St. Vincent’s University Hospital operates a protected mealtime policy.  The policy ensures that patients have a dedicated mealtime, free from as many interruptions as possible between the hours of 12:00 noon and 13:30.  This will allow patients to complete their meal and receive support if needed.

Guidance for patients and relatives bringing food into hospital

We strongly urge all visitors – in the interest of patient and food safety – not to bring in food to patients as it may pose a risk to their health and treatment plans. The Catering Department will endeavour to tailor the food they provide to meet the patient’s needs and patients are encouraged to discuss any dietary requirements with a dietician, catering officer, catering supervisor or senior nurse.
