As Chaplains our Mission is to care for the Spiritual needs of Patients, Families and Staff, offering Spiritual and Emotional support in a Holistic Healthcare Environment.

 

 

     Goals of the Chaplaincy Department

 

  1. To offer spiritual care and/or emotional support to patients, families and staff of all faiths, beliefs and philosophies particularly during times of crisis.

 

  1. To offer comfort and support to patients and family members during the dying process and to facilitate appropriate expression of grief.

 

3.       To offer spiritual care as integral members of multi-disciplinary teams, fostering a holistic philosophy and promoting inter-professional partnerships.        

4.      To offer assistance to patients and families in resolving issues that involve ethical and/or religious values and concerns.

 

  1. To respond to the Sacramental and Ritual needs of patients, families and staff.

 

6.      To promote sensitivity around families spiritual and cultural issues that

            impact treatment.

A Chaplain is available in the hospital at all times and can be contacted on bleep 478. The Chaplaincy extension number is 4325. A priest Chaplain may not always be present in the hospital but can be contacted by the Chaplain on duty.

Clinical Pastoral Education

The Clinical Pastoral Education Programme is an integral part of the Chaplaincy Department. The Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (Ireland) Ltd. and the Healthcare Chaplaincy Board accredit the programme. The Hospital sponsors three modules of CPE each year, beginning in January, April/May, and September. C.P.E is a requirement for theology graduates who are pursuing certification in professional Healthcare Chaplaincy.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation/Anointing of the Sick can be requested through the nursing staff. Holy Communion is distributed after the 10.30 Mass on Sunday. At all other times Holy Communion is available on request. When Clinical Pastoral Education Interns are present in the Hospital Communion will be distributed after 13.00 hrs. Mass on Wednesday.
