Welcome to Catering at St. Vincent’s University Hospital

Welcome to the SVUH Catering information page. Whether you are a staff member, patient or visitor, we want you to feel supported and well cared for during your time in the hospital. Our Catering team is proud to provide nourishing, safe and freshly prepared food every day, and to offer warm, welcoming spaces where staff can take a break, relax and enjoy a good meal or coffee.

Catering services overview

Our Catering Department provides all food services across St. Vincent’s University Hospital. We prepare meals that support the wellbeing of patients, staff and visitors and ensure all dietary needs are met—including therapeutic, ethnic and special dietary requirements.

Patient food services

We follow a comprehensive HACCP programme (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) to maintain the highest standards of food safety, quality and nutritional value.

To protect patient health, we strongly encourage patients to eat only food provided by the Catering Department during their stay. Food from outside the hospital is not monitored for safety and may pose risks to the patient and others on the ward.

Patient ward meal times

Patient meals are served daily between 08:00 and 20:30, Monday to Sunday.

We operate a Protected Mealtime Policy from 12:00 to 13:30 each day. This helps ensure patients can enjoy their meals without interruption and receive any support they may need.

Guidance for patients and relatives bringing food into hospital

To maintain patient safety and support treatment plans, we advise visitors not to bring food into the hospital. Our Catering team is committed to meeting patients’ dietary needs, and patients are encouraged to discuss any requirements with a dietician, catering officer, catering supervisor or senior nurse.

Staff and visitor meal services

We know how important it is for staff to have a warm, welcoming place to unwind during a busy shift. Our restaurant and cafés offer comfortable spaces to enjoy freshly prepared meals, snacks and barista coffees throughout the day.

Staff restaurant

Located on the ground floor, the Staff Restaurant offers a friendly and relaxed space for staff to refresh and refuel. Our full self-service menu includes:

  • Opening hours
    • Monday to Friday:  07.00 – 18.30
    • Saturday & Sunday: 07.00 – 14.30
    • Bank Holidays:  07.00 – 14.30

Cafes

Three welcoming cafés are available in the Clinical Services Building:

  • Main hospital entrance
  • Main atrium, ground floor
  • Centre Point

Each café serves a variety of barista coffees, teas, pastries, sandwiches and more — ideal for a quick break or a moment of calm.
