Endoscopy

The Department of Endoscopy provides a service for patients requiring an endoscopic procedure – a nonsurgical procedure used to examine a person’s digestive tract.

We are a Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accredited unit and participate in the National Colorectal Screening Programme. The JAG accreditation scheme is a patient-centred and workforce focused scheme developed for all endoscopy services and providers across the UK in the NHS and independent sector.

  • Lower GI endoscopy (colonoscopy)
  • Upper GI endoscopy (gastroscopy)
  • Sigmoidoscopy
  • National Colorectal Cancer Screening Programme (NCSS)
  • Interventional endoscopy (complex polypectomy, endoluminal stenting, endoscopic placement of feeding tubes)
  • ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography)
  • EUS (endoscopic ultrasound)
  • Bronchoscopy
  • EBUS (endobronchial ultrasound)

Referral information

The Endoscopy Department has three referral pathways 1. Inpatient, 2. Outpatient and 3. GP.

We also accept GP referrals for colonoscopy and direct access gastroscopy.
