St. Vincent’s University Hospital (SVUH) has launched its new ‘I.D. Me’ campaign as part of the hospital’s ongoing commitment to patient safety and person-centred care. The initiative, introduced by the Positive Patient Identification Committee, aims to empower patients and support staff in ensuring that every patient is correctly identified before any procedure, diagnostic test, treatment or intervention.
The campaign was officially launched at CentrePoint yesterday with the introduction of the new ‘I.D. Me’ poster by Pauline McGrath, CEO, Sinead Folan, QPS Coordinator and Geraldine Ryan, QPS Manager, on behalf of the Positive Patient Identification Committee.
The ‘I.D. Me’ poster reminds staff and patients alike of one of the most important safety practices in healthcare – checking the patient’s I.D. band before any care is delivered. It also invites patients to play an active role in their own safety by speaking up and saying, “I.D. Me,” if they are unsure whether their band has been checked.
Speaking at the launch, Pauline McGrath, CEO of St. Vincent’s University Hospital, said:
“At St. Vincent’s, patient safety is at the heart of everything we do – it’s everyone’s responsibility. This campaign is about fostering a culture where our patients feel informed, involved and confident to speak up for their safety. The words ‘I.D. Me’ are simple, but their impact is powerful – they build communication, trust and partnership between our patients and our staff.”
The initiative supports Joint Commission International (JCI) Patient Safety Goal 1: Identify Patients Correctly, reinforcing SVUH’s ongoing focus on safe, high-quality, person-centred care.
The ‘I.D. Me’ posters will be displayed throughout the hospital to increase awareness among both staff and patients, ensuring that the right care is always delivered to the right person, every time.
