St. Vincent’s University Hospital Pharmacy Department Wins Four Awards at the Hospital Professional Awards 2017

On the 16th September 2017, the Pharmacy Department at St. Vincent’s University Hospital (SVUH) were successful in winning four categories at the prestigious Hospital Professional Awards which took place at the Clayton Hotel Burlington Road.

SVUH were finalists in seven categories and went on to receive the following awards;

  • Hospital Pharmacy Team of the Year
  • Innovation in Aseptic Compounding
  • Hospital Pharmacist of the Year (Ms. Caroline Gallagher, Senior Pharmacist)
  • Excellence in Respiratory Care Initiative.

Speaking after the awards ceremony, Mr. Paul Tighe, Head of Pharmacy at SVUH said;

“I am delighted that the Pharmacy team at SVUH have been recognised by the Hospital Professional Awards for their commitment to excellence in providing a quality service to our patients and to staff across the organisation. The innovation award in aseptic compounding underlines our focus on process improvement and incremental change. The Hospital Pharmacist of the Year award for Caroline Gallagher is a testament to her consistent dedication and contribution to the advancement of pharmacy within the hospital. Our enthusiastic and dedicated team are continuously striving to develop and maintain our processes and services to the highest standards, whilst also embracing and implementing change as required.”

Professor Michael Keane, Acting CEO of SVUH also commented that;

“As an acute level four hospital, we have a strong reputation for effective medication management and education at SVUH. We are delighted to see that our track record in managing an effective pharmacy service within the hospital has been recognised by the Hospital Professional Awards this year.”

The Pharmacy Department team at SVUH provides a wide range of pharmacy services across a number of specialties. These services include; dispensary, aseptic compounding, clinical pharmacy, education and formulary, medication safety and medicines information. The team comprises pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy aides, porters and administrative support.
