Viral Hepatitis

Viral hepatitis refers to infections caused by viruses that primarily affect the liver, leading to inflammation and potential damage. The most common types are Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. At SVUH, the Hepatitis Clinic operates in collaboration with the Hepatology (Liver) Service to provide expert care and long-term management.

General recommendations and prevention

  • Regular screening for individuals at risk
  • Early diagnosis and treatment to protect liver health
  • Increased awareness and preventive measures to reduce transmission
  • Hepatitis B vaccination, which also prevents Hepatitis D infection
  • Practicing safer sex and avoiding needle sharing to lower risk

For more information on screening, vaccination or treatment options, please speak with your healthcare provider.
