Long COVID care
Our Long COVID service provides specialist care for individuals experiencing ongoing symptoms following a COVID-19 infection. This service offers comprehensive assessment, treatment and support to help manage long-term effects and improve quality of life.
Assessment
Patients undergo a detailed medical review, which may include:
- Symptom evaluation and medical history
- Blood tests, imaging or pulmonary function tests if needed
- Face-to-face or virtual consultations
Virtual assessments allow patients to consult with healthcare professionals from home, reducing the need for travel. If required, virtual appointments can be combined with in-person visits.
Holistic Approach
We take a thorough medical approach to assess symptoms and rule out alternative causes. When necessary, patients are referred to other specialties such as:
- Neurology
- Cardiology
- Respiratory medicine
Treatment and support
Management strategies may include:
- Medications to address specific symptoms
- Access to psychology services
- Physiotherapy and rehabilitation through community services
Regular follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor progress and adjust treatments as needed.
Long COVID Self-Management Booklet
SVUH has developed a Long COVID Self-Management Booklet (PDF) to support individuals in their recovery. Created by experienced healthcare professionals, it provides guidance on navigating post-COVID challenges and practical strategies to aid recovery.
This booklet is designed to complement professional care and encourages patients to set realistic goals for their personal recovery. If you have any concerns, we recommend discussing them with your healthcare team.
C-19 YRS Portal
Our department uses the C19-YRS app to support patients with long Covid or post-COVID symptoms. The app allows our patients to report and track their symptoms remotely, helping us to monitor progress and provide more patient centred care.
The app includes useful videos designed to improve patient health and can be easily accessed via mobile devices.
Patients can access the app by visiting https://covid.irl.ltc-platform.com/ and logging in with the details provided by our clinical team. If you have any difficulties accessing the app or need assistance with your login, please contact us via email: idadmin@svhg.ie or tel: +353 1 221 5525.
