Preventive Medicine Health Promotion

St. Vincent’s University Hospital is an active member of the Irish Health Promoting Hospital (HPH) Network and is committed to the attainment of health gain for our patients, staff and community. The Department of Preventive Medicine and Health Promotion is supported by UCD under the leadership of Professor Cecily Kelleher (Principal of the UCD College of Health and Agricultural Sciences) and the UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Science.

Services

The hospital has played a pioneering role in preventive medicine and health promotion and provides a range of clinical, educational, one to one and group lifestyle programmes for patients, staff and the community. It has also become a valuable resource for other hospital departments requiring support on the development or evaluation of their own health promotion initiatives.

Stop Smoking Course at St. Vincent’s University Hospital – Free 6-Week Programme

If you’re thinking about quitting smoking or vaping, we’re here to support you.

St. Vincent’s University Hospital offers a free 6-week Stop Smoking Course designed to help you take control of your health in a supportive and practical way.

Course details:

• Start date: Monday, 1st September 2025
• Duration: 6 weeks (every Monday evening)
• Time: 5:30pm – 7:00pm
• Location: St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Elm Park, Dublin 4
• Cost: Free of charge
• Open to: Anyone who wants to quit smoking or vaping

What participants will gain:

• Support from our dedicated team and fellow participants
• Skills to effectively manage cravings and develop healthier habits
• Expert advice on stop smoking medications tailored to individual needs
