Education and Research Centre

The Education and Research Centre (ERC) was opened in the early 1990’s as one of St. Vincent’s University Hospital’s key initiatives for increasing the knowledge base in the hospital and improving patient care. The  ERC’s dedicated laboratory facilities are designed to complement the work of primary clinical workers in diagnosis and treatment of disease. The centre houses major translational research programmes in Dermatology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Oncology, Respiratory Medicine, Neurology, to name but a few. The common trend between each group is the role of the immune system and inflammation in disease.  The ERC works closely with biomedical research initiatives at the Conway Institute, UCD. Researchers in the Centre have developed state-of-the-art laboratory techniques to explore the regulation of immune cell infiltration and function in patient samples, contributing to our understanding of how disease evolves and responds to treatment.
